Rescuing wild animals in Akumal Natura Rescue

Take a deep breath, imagine breaking your routine for a few days in an environment where nature is the protagonist: you are in the Akumal Natura glamping. Here the sounds of the jungle will surround you. The ever-present nature will make you feel its cycles. The environment becomes the perfect aid for you to reconnect with yourself. This way you will remember that you are part of the cycle of life. Like the rest of the animals that populate our planet.
At the Akumal Natura glamping, one of the activities we organize for guests who wish to do so are half-day visits to meet the animals that are in the Akumal Natura Rescue center. There we will explain our ecological plan that allows us to protect wildlife. It is a non-profit organization with which we try to help animals in need.
What began as a small adventure to rescue a baby spider monkey, which fell from its mother’s arms during a hurricane, has become a center where we house more than 80 wild animals of 23 different species. Many of them are in danger of extinction. During the tour you will meet and be able to interact, under the supervision of the guides, with some of our animals. Among them turtles, parrots, snakes, spider monkeys, pheasant, white-tailed deer or the harmless stingless Melipona bee from which you can taste its rich honey.
Practically all the animals that arrive at the center are sent by the Secretary of the Environment with some physical problem or derived from inappropriate confinement. We take care of carrying out rehabilitation programs that allow their reintegration into their original environment whenever possible. Our intention is to offer them a comfortable and safe refuge that allows them to recover and reintegrate into their habitat as soon as possible. To do this, we have the support of volunteers who help us care for the animals. And from beneficiaries who with their donations help us maintain the facilities and feed the resident animals.
The visits we make to Akumal Natura Rescue end in the cenote that is located on our land. The experience of taking a bath in its illuminated crystal clear waters will be one of those that you cannot forget in your life.
